Hello,
You have a red spot on the front of the shin below the knee. It is painful and indented. You also have swelling foot and ankle due to which you can't put on your shoes. Your symptoms may be indicative of
purpura. It can be tender or nontender, but usually they are tender. It is caused by inflammation of the blood vessel, called
vasculitis.
Now there are a lot of disease processes which cause vasculitis, some are more concerning than the others and treatment may differ depending on the factor causing it. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a
dermatologist or a GP, get blood tests, urine tests, imaging tests,
angiography &
biopsy done. Your treatment will depend on the pathology detected.
Discolored spots on the shins are often an early sign of impending Type II (adult onset)
diabetes. The spots are usually red or brownish-red and are generally slow spreading. Control your blood sugar level at all cost. Restrict salt intake as you are developing swelling, excess salt intake causes water retention.
Avoid sedentary lifestyle. Do stretch exercises and walking, Take home made nutritious food. Avoid packaged food, oily junk food. When sitting put your leg on a stool and while on bed put it on a pillow. Avoid sitting or standing at the same place for a prolonged period of time. Stay away from addictions if any.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
