Aside from obviously seeking medical attention just to be sure, I wanted to know if it's possible to cause trauma to the ear drum without perforating it. I see a red spot on the ear drum from where my son went too far with the qtip, but I have also seen my share of perforated ear drums. Is it possible that some capillary damage may have occurred without actually puncturing the ear?
hello, thanks for your query, yes. q tip injury can injure superficial layer of tympanic membrane causing redness and congestion with out causing tympanic membrane perforation.do not put water while taking bath or face wash. do not take cool drinks , curd , ice creams. it requires antibiotic ear drops and pain killers and oral antibiotic course to prevent pus formation. visit an ent surgeon. all d best. take care.
