What Causes Red Welt With Pain Around The Area Of Injection?

I know you would want me to see a dr but I need know what else you could tell me online, cause I can not see a dr at this moment. At 11am today I had an IM injection of zithromax in my gluteus. I found out that it isnâ??t indicated. I am afraid that my skin will eventually slough or something. At this moment, its appearance is more like a welt defined by white circle that is approximately 3x3 in with a dark center (dark red). This is a change from this morning from just a tiny bit of redness around the injection site. There has always been significant pain. That hasnâ??t changed.

Hi...
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns...

As per your complain there dark red centre with a white circle seems to be due to mild inflammation and is due to soft tissue injury caused by the pricking needle and as the zithromax is an antibiotic there is a very less probability that it will cause an adverse reaction and slough off the skin and soft tissue fibres in that area and as of now there is no reaction you can now relax..
You can just do cool compresses over the area of injection and take a proper intravenous injection by a trained nurse or doctor for a proper action of the medicine..
There seems nothing serious and pain is due to inflammation that is common after injection and you can apply a numbing gel at the injection site do cold compresses and take painkiller like Tylenol or diclofenac potassium..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
