Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Saliva appears reddish/purplesish/reddish brown in the morning. Or mostly anytime I get up from sleeping even in daytime. Some days darker, some days light. Never a taste of blood and always translucent. No pain. Tops of some teeth have been sensitive. I used a toothpaste for sensitive teeth and that feeling is mostly gone now--on some teeth totally gone. Gums seem firm and of normal colour. Had a physical recently and no calls from doctor about blood tests etc--though I have yet to get the results. I feel fine and am athletic. Biggest issue is lack of sleep. Averaging 3-4 per night.
Thanks for your query. The most common reason for brown saliva in the morning is nicotine which comes from smoking and tobacco chewing. Both active and passive smoking can cause brown saliva.Other cause for brown saliva are acid reflux at night, due some medication and infection.
I would suggest you to quit smoking or chewing tobacco (if you are doing).Consult doctor for proper examination and consult gastroenterologist for acid reflux problem.
Hope your concern has been resolved. Get Well Soon. Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
