What Causes Reddish Sore Patch On Labia Minora?

My inner labia minora, right above my vaginal opening has red sore patches. There is no odd discharge or any other pain, just this. Between my clitoris and vaginal opening. I m concerned because I recently had unprotected sex, I just noticed it now.. And I might be a little paranoid. Could it be an STI?

Hello,

Your condition is called vulvitis. Vulvitis is inflammation in your vulva, or your genitals. The vulva has soft skin folds that surround the vagina, including the labia majora (the outer folds), labia minora (vaginal lips) and the clitoris.

The following are causes of vulvitis:
1) Dyed or perfumed toilet paper.
2) Pads, pantyliners or tampons that are scented or contain harsh ingredients.
3) Bubble baths, soaps, vaginal sprays and douches that contain harsh ingredients.
4) Wearing a wet bathing suit of sweaty workout clothes for too long.
5) Irritation from a chlorinated swimming pool or hot tub water.
6) Synthetic underwear that traps moisture and irritates your vulva.
7) Laundry detergents and fabric softeners that irritate your skin.
8) Injury from activities like cycling or horseback riding.
9) Spermicides that trigger an allergic reaction.
10) Skin conditions such as eczema or dermatitis.
11) Fungal or bacterial infections, including yeast infection, scabies and pubic lice.
12) Viral infections, such as genital herpes.
13) Vaginal atrophy during menopause.

Tests may include urine tests, blood tests, STI tests, and Pap smear. Treatment depends upon the cause of vulvitis. Some tips are to avoid irritants, and use Hydrocortisone 1% cream can be applied. Take regular sitz baths that can help relieve itching and burning caused by vulvitis.

If your symptoms don't relieve even with above treatment, you need to consult a gynecologist for a specific diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
