What Causes Redness Along With Warmth Outside The Leg?

I have reddish skin discoloration pain and warmth to the outside of one leg which affects my whole leg. My foot is discolored with a brown color which looks like dirt and I get sharp electrical like pain which lasts about 5 seconds or less. Their is pain in my toes also. This has been going on for about 6 weeks or more. I have had 2 sessions of ultra sound with negative results. My leg swells up almost 2 times bigger than my left leg. My doctor ruled out blood clots and or water retention. He has no idea what it is and is more frustrated than I am. I do have high cholesterol which I think could be a problem with clottage. Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of redness along with warmth outside the leg. Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to many reasons like keratosis pilaris , folliculitis , eczema , hives , bug bites and skin infection. Need not to worry. It could be due to compromised immunity of body as well.

I would suggest you to clean the skin of legs with warm water and mild soap and betadine , keep it dry and take antihistamine like benadryl. you should avoid touching or pricking rashes. If condition doesn't get better then consult dermatologist for proper examination . Doctor may order blood test , skin test , allergy test and physical examination . Doctor may prescribe clindamycin , anti inflammatory , anti allergic and corticosteroid ointment .
