What Causes Redness And Irritation In Eye Post Retinal Detachment Vitrectomy?

I am a 52 year old female and I had retinal detachment vitrectomy with gas bubble on January 12, 2015. I am having trouble seeing out of the eye, and my daughter asked me last night why my pupils were different sizes--is this something I should worry about before Tuesday of next week? I am going to my Dr for my followup 28 days on Tuesday. I am a little concerned that the eye is irritated, a little red, feels like a contact lens has been in too long. My vision in that eye is like I have been swimming, blurry. I am taking Ibuprofen occasionally and lubricating it with eyedrops as well as the prednisolone drops. My main concern is the pupil problem---didn t notice it because I can t see it. Any advice? Thank you. I think it is anxiety on my part.

Hi..
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for the query.
Pupil size will be different if you have been prescribed any drops which cause pupillary dilatation..These will be usually prescribed after an eye surgery for a week or two..
In addition the gas bubble and the condition of retinal detachment also cause pupil to be bigger than the fellow and the reation sluggish..
No need to worry about that..
The vision will be blurry because of the gas bubble..
It will get absorbed in 2 weeks..
Later on the vision depends on the status of the retina..
But let me tell you, vision after a retinal detachment surgery is guarded and depends upon the health of the retina..
The irritation could be because of the sutures or the prednisolone drops..
It will slowly come down..
Keep using lubricating eye drops..
Hope this information is helpful to you..
Will be available for further queries..
Take care..
