What Causes Redness And Irritation In The Eyes While Treating Stomach Flu?

Hi, my youngest daughter has had the stomach flu for four days now and yesterday I had a horrible pain at the mouth of the stomach, sweating heavy and my lower eye lids got irritated like if I had an allergy. Threw out the day had diarrhea and the felling of throwing up, but never did. That was like at 2pm, at 9pm the irritation in the eye lids had gone down but still red and ache. Today the stomach is irritated, the eye lids are swollen and hurting a bit but no more diarrhea. Just want to know about the eye lids, why this happen? Thanks, Gb

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms of your daughter seem to be related to conjunctivitis due to a viral infection. I recommend using artificial tear for local application. I also recommend using anti-inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen three tablets a day.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
