What Causes Redness And Pain Around Cortisone Injection Site?
I got a cortisone shot several months ago in my elbow for tendonitis and my elbow was fine for a month or so but then I developed a couple small sores. One has never healed and it seems to be at the injection entry site. and it hurts to touch. It seems like a deep hole. Its very painful. The skin around it is red and feels like a burn. It does not itch! Also the skin round my elbow looks like it is a different color than normal. I m wondering if that is normal after a cortisone shot?
Discoloration or redness after a injection of Cortizone is a possible side effect. One can also form a scar tissue at the site of injection if your skin is very sensitive or prone to it. Importantly also, an infection at the site of injection should be excluded.
Infections at the site of injections are not uncommon and if they occur they usually require an antibiotic treatment. I recommend that you return to your doctor and have them check the area of concern to make sure that there is no infection going on.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
