What Causes Redness And Swelling Around An Open Wound?
my right hand got in the spray of a high power pressure washer and the water spray cut my hand open and the high pressure pushed water under my skin and bubbled it up. About 1 1/2 diameter or so. The cut does not appear to be deep but the area where the water got under my skin is swollen and red. This happened yesterday. I put a large bandage over the wound with antibiotic ointment on it today. When I took it off about 3 hours ago it was a little ooze. I ve left it uncovered and it s drying up. Now beginning to hurt. Do I need to seek medical attention?
Some basic principles of our own response to an injury is called inflammatory response which includes- Redness, pain, temperature, swelling and loss of some function. Since its a cut, the first steps of healing process causes release of body fluids which later on helps in clamping and wound healing.
Though you have used medications of your own, its always better to get evaluated by a physician. Cause certain woulds require other medications like anti inflammatory, enzymes, vitamin C apart from antibiotics & blood sugar assessment at the earliest.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Nipan Chandra Das,
