What Causes Redness And Swelling Behind The Ears?

I have both ears red, swollen and hot as well as the skin behind them. The only thing I can think of is that I got new eyeglasses the day it started. Can that possibly be the problem? They were hurting after only half to three quarters of the day. Mainly right where the glasses would go around the ear.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

As per the history provided, my thoughts are as following:
This looks to be inflammation of the lymph nodes all over the body, the cause cannot be found out easily.
All the places you have mentioned contain the lymph nodes.

This can be a viral or gram-negative bacterial infection having affinity for the lymph nodes.

This may not give fever as against expected.

I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Get the ultrasound-guided FNAC of the lymph nodes, as this may give an idea.
Continue antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medication like Ibuprofen and may need oral steroids as the strongest anti-inflammatory measure as you have pain and tenderness.
Do not be freaked out as the history is of short duration and hence suggestive of infection as explained above.
Since the other reports are normal, the worry is still less.

I hope this answer helps you, please discuss with your Doctor and looks forward to proper diagnosis and management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein,
General Surgeon
