What Causes Redness And Swelling In Ankle, Foot And Lower Leg?
I had redness on lower right with no itching or pain, I thought may be poison oak, but no itching, noticed ankle, foot and lower leg was swollen. I took tylonol some of the swelling went down and redness about gone. Is this something to be concerned about? YYYY@YYYY thanks
You had redness on your right leg, ankle and foot associated with swelling. You had no pain or itching. Swelling in the leg, ankle and foot is commonly due to water retention, it is indicative of venous insufficiency, infection, venous thrombosis, lymphedema, ankle and foot injury, side effects of certain medications, developing kidney problem, etc.
You are suggested to limit salt intake, stay active for better circulation, if obese, maintain healthy weight. Keep the affected leg at rest, keep it elevated on a stool while sitting or on a pillow when on bed. Get clinically examined by a GP, get required blood tests and investigations done to detect the pathology causing the symptoms. You will be treated according to the symptoms and severity of the pathology detected.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
