Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Redness And Swelling On Shin And Ankle Caused Due To Injury?
My husband was throwing a large piece of wood on a pile and it bounced back and hit his leg. It didn t hit on his shin. It is swollen and has a really red spot and is blue all around. The swelling goes all the way to his ankle. It hurts more today the third day. It almost made him vomit when it happened. He will not go have it looked at. Is it necessary?
Since your husband got hit by a wooden piece on the shin and now the area is swollen with bluish discoloration around the wound, he is suggested to get an X-ray done to rule out any minor or major fracture. He will be treated according to the report of the X-ray. In the meantime, he can take pain relieving medicines (Naproxen / Combiflam), one SOS after food to ease pain and inflammation.
Let him keep his leg at rest, little elevated on a stool while sitting or on a pillow when on bed. He can apply ointment Thrombophob gently all over the wound to reduce blood clots and reduce the bluish color of the skin all around. Let him be clinically examined & treated to avoid any complications later.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
