What Causes Redness And Swelling On Skin After Using Duct Tape?
I was using duct tape to secure a bandaid to cover a cut on the tip of a finger the skin under the duct tape became soar I removed the duct tape and saw swelling and redness on my skin are there chemicals in duct tape adhesive that irritate the skin ?
Duct tape should not be applied tightly covering the whole finger. It may compromise the normal vascular flow and cause irritation. Duct tape usage may result into skin irritation, erythema, numbness in some people due to some unclear immune system stimulating property of duct tape. These symptoms generally go away by removing duct tape. Again duct tape cut the oxygen supply to skin pore and obstruct the sweat outlet. These are also responsible for skin irritation. Your skin may also be allergic to the glue material used in the tape. Keeping your skin open generally relieves the irritation by time. Local steroids or moisturizer agents may also help. If the symptoms persist there may be a chance of local infection.
