What Causes Redness And Swelling On The Right Leg?

All of a sudden I have redness and swelling in the upper portion of my right leg. I ve been sick, so I don t know if that has anything to do with it or not. Is this something that I need to be concerned about immediately and see my doctor, or should I wait it out for a few days to see if it goes away.? I do have edema in my legs, and I try to wear compression stocks, but not al of the time. If it helps to know, I did get a lot of urine on that leg today. Can urine cause edema of the leg do this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I should give you some tests so that we can understand whether the problems are coming from leg alone or may be connected with kidney or heart. Please do these tests:

1. Kidney Function Tests
2. Complete Blood Tests including uric acid, creatinine.
3. ECG
4. Kidney CT
5. Morning Blood Pressure
6. Fasting Blood Sugar

Now, to answer your doubt, urine only forms in the kidney and stays inside the bladder.

The kidney is responsible for maintaining the amount of fluid we have in our body.

So, if there is edema, simply thought, it may be due to the inefficiency of the kidney which can't expel the fluid from your body. So, we are testing your kidney and its function.

Do not worry. When the result will come, we can get some clues from where the problem is coming so we can do the proper treatment. Please post the test result here.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dipan Samanta, General & Family Physician
