What Causes Redness Around Pubic Area?

I ve notice a red circle where my pubic hair is.. Half an inch from one side to the other? Not to red but enough to notice from skin color. Has a bump on the outside of it.. Not a big bump. Been there for awhile just didn t think it was anything serious? But now I realize it hasn t gone away. Just hope its nothing bad that s all?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history of redness and lump in pubic hair bearing area.
The hair bearing area has sweat and hair glands.
The commonest causes of redness and boils in this area are as follows:
There is more fat in this area.
Always covered by underwear or so hence not exposed to direct atmosphere or air.
Usually not much cared for.
Retains sweat. water and soap easily if not cared for by pouring more water during bath.
Hence the cause of redness and boil/lumps is easily explained.
The fat allows more edema and subcutaneous infection as in any other fatty area of body.
Fat has least blood supply hence the body mechanism as well as antibiotic and other medicines reach is low.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Hair trimming.
Applying liquid povidone iodine liberally in this area.
Use plenty of water and soap and then rinse with lots of water to remove water and soap.
Antibiotic is rarely needed.
Consult your Doctor if these measures fail.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
