What Causes Redness Around The Eyes?

My 4 year old son had his Tonsils and adenoids removed yesterday. Today I have noticed larger than normal areas around his eyes affected by redness, kinda looks like red bags around his eyes, I have looked online and can find no explanation or causes, please help

The red areas around eyes could be due to some allergy or infection.
A clinical assessment of red areas is required to know exact cause of redness.
Surgical removal of tonsils and adenoids is unlikely to be associated with red areas.
