What Causes Redness On Lips During Winters?

My lips always get red when I go outside to shovel the snow. My wife says that they are chill burns. I searched it up on the web, but I couldn t find any remedies. Every night I put a ton of coconut oil to moisturize it. The description: a red line appears around my lip line; it itches; always happens when cold. What are they? How do I fix it? How should I prevent it? Please answer ASAP!!!!!!!!!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome.

First of all, make sure you drink plenty of liquids (preferably water). Apply something like vaseline petrolatum jelly on to your lips before exposing yourself to cold weather, and continue to keep a moisturizer or a petroleum jelly on your lips even when you are indoors, things should get better and more tolerable. Also, check your nutrient profile to make sure you do not have any deficiencies, a multivitamin will greatly help.

Best wishes.
