What Causes Redness On Skin After Using Fluorouracil?

I am prescribed fluorouracil for an area on my chest. I am on day 6 of 14 (that I know of, may be longer?). I was told I would/could have severe skin reaction and to stay out of sun while on it. I would like to know how long til I would know if I am going to react with angry welts and redness and if I am sensitive to sun only on area treated?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I can understand your problem about skin reactions but the tablet you are given are special.

It is used for actinic keratosis or basal cell carcinoma in cream.

So it would be your actinic keratosis as given for 14 days.

You should not go to sun as keratosis will worsens.

Actinic keratosis occurs due to increased melatonin hormone leads to keratosis.

Follow treatment for a definite period with proper care and you will improve.

Have a better health.
