What Causes Redness On The Scalp, Face And Neck Along With Itching?
Hi, my daughter is 15 years old and has not been doing anything out of the ordinary/isn t doing or trying anything new. But for the past week and a half she s been complaining of an itchy head (I checked for lice, not thoroughly. But I checked. Didn t find anything.) But her scalp is a pinkish-red color. Now she says her neck is itchy. Then last night she applied apple cider vinegar to her face (which she usually does every morning and night) and her face got all red. This has never happened before. Then today at school her ears got very red and had a burning sensation, kind of like her face did last night. She did not apply the vinegar this morning. I am very confused as to what this might be.
It could be seborrhoea. It is nothing but a kind of fungal infection. As first line management, you can try ketoconazole shampoo for symptomatic relief.
Over the counter, an available antihistamine like Cetirizine can be taken for itching. If symptoms persist better to consult a dermatologist and get evaluated.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
