Am male, age 73, caucasian. Experiencing sudden flushing of skin all over body--face, arms, torso, legs, testicles. Skin bright red all over. Skin is prickly, sensitive to touch, hot. Am taking Metropolol for HBP and three cholesterol meds--Niaspan ER, Fenofibrate, Crestor.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Sudden flushes can be caused sometimes by medications and one of the cholesterol medications you are using, Niaspan, is nicotinic acid and is well known for causing skin flushing as a common side effect.

You will need to talk this with your doctor and see the need to stop this medication and which are the further steps.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
