Hi Dr, Andrew, hope all is well. My 9months baby only weighs 7.6kgs, Her birth weight was 2.9kgs. I don t think this is the reason why her weight gain is so slow! I have been breast feeding her till now, but I feel the breast milk is not enough for her as she is so active. She can hardly finish a small bottle of 120mls in one feed! In fact the much milk she usually takes is 30mls only, and she pushes away the bottle. I have given Rice cereals, Cerelac, Juice, I have even introduced solids like potatoes, rice, meat, butter nut, etc, but she eats only two table spoons! what can I do to see her gain some weight?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.. First of all 7.6 kg is a good weight for a 9 month infant. There is nothing to worry about this weight. An infant is given restricted foods as her intestine is weak & it is difficult to digest heavy foods for her. Breast feeding is best for infant. It is sterile so free from any micro-organism, is always at right temperature & it is easy to digest for an infant. Any other milk may contain bacteria which may cause diarrhea & other illness to your infant. Other milk should be introduced to an infant if mother feels that she is not producing enough to feed her. Any other milk should be boiled thoroughly (the bottles & nipples should also be boiled), cooled & then given to an infant. Diet or appetite of an infant is very less, 30-50 ml milk or 2 table spoons may be enough to feed her. however you may feed her 4-5 times a day.
Don't worry she would be fine Hope your query is resolved
