What Causes Reoccurring Pain In The Lower Abdomen?

Hello, my wife is a 5 -4 45 year old female; in very good athletic shape. She runs 4x week and is also a spin instructor. She eats very well, as well. Just recently, she has begun experiencing pain on her right side, lower abdomen. It is radiating through her lower abdomen and down towards her urethra. The pains are becoming more frequent and I am a bit concerned..

General & Family Physician 's  Response
hello,
Thanks for your question. I understand your concern.Lower abdominal pain, radiating to urethra will be most probably due to renal calculus(kidney stones) or urinary tract infection. In this case there may be other symptoms like urinary frequency, painful micturation etc. Right sided lower abdominal pain may also be due to appendicitis. In the case of appendicitis there must be other symptoms like vomiting, fever, anorexia etc. In your wife's case i suspect urinary problem. There is nothing to worry much. Just tell her to drink 2 litres of liquids daily and proper hygiene after urination is also necessary. If the pain sustains after this she has to undergo a USG abdomen to rule out kidney stones or any other gynecological pathology. Please consult your doctor for a USG. I hope this will help you.
