What Causes Restlessness In A Child?

My 8 year old grandson possibly has ADHD although it has not been definitely diagnosed. He plays the piano, gets great grades but according to his teacher he has trouble staying in his seat, moves around alot and engages in fantasy play when particularly stressed or bored. I am a former school teacher and have seen many of my students display these behaviors but did not consider them abnormal for that age group. We dont want him labeled unnecessarily. What should I be looking for to determine the best path forward?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms and signs you have given are consistent with ADHD.

As of now reassurance and motivation can help a bit.

If the symptoms are severe better to consult a child psychiatrist and start on therapy.

It has got good response with treatment and he will be fine in next couple of years.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
