What Causes Restricted Movement And Constant Pain In Jaw Radiating To The Ear?

I started with a clicking in my jaw..Very painful. Then during an uncontrolled yawn, i heard a pop and felt an extreme amount of pain.. Now there is no clicking, just constant pain & difficulty (pain) opening & closing my mouth, chewing, yawning...The pain radiates to my ear causing an ear ache 50% of the time.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain the symptoms seems like those of Temporomandibular Joint Disorder and there seems some discrepancy related to the jaw joint leading to pain and difficulty in jaw movements..
Pain in ear is radiating pain from the jaw joint.
There is a possibility that there is dislocation of the articular disc that is a ligamentous soft cushion present between the bony components that forms the joint..
You need to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and along with a clinical evaluation he can advise you to get a full mouth x ray done known as orthopantomogram or OPG and evaluate the jaw joint for the problems and treat accordingly..
As of now you can take painkillers like Ibuprofen or Tramadol, muscle relaxants like Chlorzoxasone, do warm compresses over the joint region, massage gently with your fingers in round motions and take a soft diet..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.

Hi.Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.

As per your symptoms you should have some temporomandibular joint problem. Temporomandibular joint is a bilateral joint situated just in front of ear & aid in opening & closing of mouth.
Sometimes a tear in ligament or muscle can take place with forceful opening of this joint as in yawning. You would have a clicking sound & pain on movement of joint. You can do following remedies
1. Take a anti-inflammatory medicine like acetaminophen/ibuprofen along with muscle relaxant such as chlorxozazone. It will reduce pain in movement of the joint
2. Do hot water mouthwash by keep hot water inside mouth for 2-3 minutes, it will help reduce the pain
3. Don't wide open the mouth. Open as much as necessary. Be extra careful during yawning.

If problem persist visit a dental surgeon
Don't worry you would be fine
Hope this information helps.
