What Causes Retracted Ear Drum Leading To Severe Pain?
My daughter went to immediate care today for ear pain and feels she cant hear as well. They have treated her for allergies in the past with the ear pain, and antibiotics for infection.. He told her today there is no wax build up and her ear drum looks wrinkly.. She asked for a referral to an ENT because she doesnt feel he is listening to her.. her ear hurts-- what is a wrinkly ear drum a result of??

Hi,
1. The retracted eardrum is because of the negative ear pressure build-up inside the ear which is pulling the Tympanic membrane (so-called the curtain of the ear) inside which is probably due to Eustachian tube blockage (a tube leads middle ear to nasopharynx)
2. So for this, you need to do some procedures :
a. valsalva manoevre -which is to hold your nostrils tight while closing your mouth and try to blow a balloon. This will help reduce the pressure build up inside the middle ear.
b. chew gum two times a day for 20 minutes.
c. take saline nasal drops
d. steroid nasal drops
Review after 5 days.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
