Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Rib Pain With Shortness Of Breath And Popping Sound?
I am a rower and began experiencing rib pain the other day. I m pretty sure nothing is broken, but where the rib connects to the sternum I have a lot of discomfort. I am a little short of breath and there is a popping sound. It is painful when I move and am laying down, but is not painful to the touch.
As this sounds like a costochondritis. The joint where it is painful is the costochondral joint and it is due to strain happened there. I will advice to not to activities which leads the joint to be more in strain and also allow the joint to relax more.
Do hot water fermentation and slow deep breathing while supporting the joint over the chest and wait and see if the pain reduced. Also an x-ray will be of good choice to look out for.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
