What Causes Right-sided Itchiness And Loss Of Hearing After Using Ear Tubes?

I had ear bilateral ear tubes put in twice now. My left ear has been plugged for about a month. My right ear has started to itch on the inside and feels tender now. They don t want to put tubes in again due to the risk of a permanent hole. I can t hear though. I m on fluticasone. I heard about permanent tubes. I m trying immunotherapy for allergies. Is ther such a thing as permanent tube? Why would my right ear canal suddenly start itching and now I can t hear very well from that ear.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Sudden onset of itching or ear block may be due to otitis externa or eustachian tube block or middle ear effusion etc. Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Use water vapor inhalation and salt water gargling thrice a day for five days. Use tablet Amoxiclav twice a day for five days. Please consult your ENT specialist he will examine the external ear canal and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
