What Causes Right Sided Lower Back Pain During Periods?
I have had low right back pain for 5 days. I am 48 yo female. It is my menstrual cycle week, however have not started. I have never experienced this pain with my cycle before. Worsens throughout the day. I took a muscle relaxant and it helped one night but then did not notice any difference. Gets better throughout the night with rest I assume. I have had 2 kidney stones that passed on there own years ago.
Hi, Thanks for asking your question. I have read your query and understand your concern.
Low back pain during periods is a common problem. Mostly, it is because of the uterine contractions and simple measures such as taking enough rest and hot bath and pain killers such as Ibuprofen would be sufficient to help with the pain. However, if these measures do not help and the pain is making you worried then I would recommend that you see your doctor who will perform a pelvic examination and request an ultrasound to look for pelvic structures and/or rule out conditions such as endometriosis, fibroids, inflammation etc.
Also, it is important to consider any other mechanical problems of the lower back that may give rise to pain.
Hope this helps and please do not hesitate to ask for any further clarification.
