What Causes Right Sided Upper Abdominal Pain For Several Months?

Have on going right upper abdominal pain for several months. Went to ER, had ultrasound that showed hypoechoic liver mass & fatty liver. Had abdominal CT scan including multi-phasic liver. CT was negative with the exception of fatty liver. Continue to have off and on pain in the same area, right under my rib cage. I have a hiatal hernia & GERD which I taken Prilosec for many years. GI doc thinks it is the GERD or functional pain. To me, it feels like something is terribly wrong. The pain feels like I have been punched in gut.

Thanks for your query.
Noted the history of pain in the upper abdomen like a punch in the gut, for several months, visited ER, Ultrasound and CT scan contradictory, CT shows only fatty liver, pain under the rib cage, also have GERD and hiatal hernia.Doctors feel that it may be due to GERD or can be functional.
I would advise you the following:
- Since ultrasound and CT scan are done, what remains is MRCP, upper GI Endoscopy, colonoscopy and enteroclysis along with tests of liver function and other blood tests, urine and stool.
- Clinical evaluation and examination to get the probable clinical diagnosis and to get the further tests and correlation between the investigations and clinical pictures and to give you an appropriate treatment
