HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Pain that occurs on taking a deep breath can be due to different causes such as: (1) costochondritis- this is inflammation of the cartilage between the sternum and ribs
(2)pleuritis- this is inflammation of the pleura. Pleura are the linings between the lungs and the chest wall
(3)pericarditis- inflammation of the lining around the heart

All of these would cause chest pain which is worse on taking a deep breath.

Anti inflammatory pain killers would help in any of these conditions but in pleuritis and pericarditis, the specific cause would need to be determined and treated.

Anti inflammatory pain killers include naproxen, cataflam, ibuprofen.

I hope this helps
