What Causes Ringing Sensation In The Ear?

The doctor prescribed Meloxicam. After taking for 3 days I have ringing in my left ear and that is all I can hear. I quit taking it 4 days ago, and the symptom is still there. Will I regain hearing in my left ear? What other medication can I take for my arthritis? I am back to hardly walking because of the pain.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

In this circumstance, increase the ringing in the ears is mostly due to an increase in hearing loss due to age-related neural loss.

Please tell me do you have any hearing loss or any history of loud noise exposure or trauma to the ear?

You should get pure tone audiometry done to see the amount of hearing loss is present.

The need for a hearing aid will depend on the reports as managing the deafness helps to control tinnitus.

For now, I would start tablet cinnarizine two times a day for at least 2 weeks and tablet vitamin b12 1500 micrograms once daily. These medicines will help with tinnitus.

All the medicines I have prescribed will be available at a prescription only.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
