What Causes Rings Around The Eyes?

Hi there.. My 10 year old daughter has been having a very very itchy left eye the past couple of days, bloodshot but no drainage. I discussed with a pharmacist allergy drops because she is allergic to pollen(even thought her eyes have never been itchy/ red before). The pharmacist figured because it was only in one eye it is pink eye. So last evening I bought polysporin drops and gave them to her three times since then. She had felt some relief from the itchiness but now the rt eye began to itch. On the third dosing when I instilled them she had severe pain and severe itching ... I flushed her eyes with water because I thought she might be allergic to drops.I went back to see pharmacist and she said to stop the eye drops. She could be allergic to them. Don t use anything else only Benadryl for the itching and she how she does. Tonight before bed time she developed rings around her eyes and we are concerned... Is it allergies? Is it pink eye? Should I be concerned about the rings around the eyes. She also said earlier that when she bent down to take her sneakers off her eye were hurting on the inside.. Thank you for your time

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hi,

According to what you have described, it could be allergy, it could be infection, excessive stress to eyes. I suggest you to avoid any precipitating factors to which she has known allergy for. Limit screen time for tv, mobile, computer if any. Splash cold water in eyes twice a day. At least 8 hours sleep is necessary. The severe pain indicates some sort of infection, so I highly recommend you to visit an ophthalmologist instead of just depending on over the counter medication.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
