What Causes Rise In ALT Levels

My ALT level was 22, 6 months ago and now it is 60. Everything else is normal. In fact, my cholesterol went down from 249 to 196 and triglycerides from 231 to 133. I do drink 2 glasses of wine per night, could this be the cause? Or I just recovered from food poisoning, could this be it?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Welcome to healthcaremagic.com!

I really appreciate your concern. ALT is a liver enzyme which can be elevated due to liver injury. Food poisoning is nothing to do with raised ALT levels. In your case it is probably due to alcohol induced. This mildly elevated levels is not a serious issue. All you have to do is to be cautious in consumption of alcohol.

Hope my answer has solved your query. Take Care.

Thank you.

Best Regards.
Dr. Manan
