Hello Dip,
Thank you for your question and welcome to Healthcare Magic. I read your query and I understand your concern.
Increase
liver enzymes level (
SGOT and SGPT) is a common side effect. It happens 1% to 10% of the cases. In general, patients who developed elevated SGOT and SGPT are asymptomatic, and the abnormalities decrease or resolve with either continuation or discontinuation of
infliximab, or modification of concomitant medications.
Regarding your question if can take the 2nd course of remicade(infliximab), the answer is yes. However, my recommendations are to have a second check of liver enzymes before starting the second course of infliximab, even though they are not elevated very significantly to discontinue the therapy.
Your liver enzymes will be reduced by themselves, as your liver heals itself. The things you could do to make this process quicker is not drinking alcohol, cease all non-prescription drugs, don't use processed food, focus on organic foods, use fish oil (omega 3), reduce all environmental toxins, such as chemical cleaners, sunscreens, personal hygiene products, perfumes, detergents, disinfectant or paint fumes, and even second hand cigarette smoke contain dangerous additives that will damage your liver.
Hope I helped with my answer. For further concerns or follow up questions feel free to ask again.
Wishing you good health,
Dr. Ina
