What Causes Rise In Sugar Level While Taking Chemotheraphy For Colon Cancer?

My dad has stage III colon cancer. The chemotherapy that he is taking is mixed with decadron. His sugar levels became elevated last Friday. Chemotherapy was administered the day before. The oncologist discussed the possibility of stopping chemotherapy with his PCP. We are regulating the sugar. His CEA was 1000 now it is 600. Why is stopping a chemo an option if he is responding to it?

Hello dear Greetings
Regarding the cause of rise in sugar level despite taken chemotherapy for stage 3 colon cancer I would suggest you have developed an adrenal gland disorder due to metastases to the gland giving rise to increase in your Sugar level

So the use of decadron(dexamethasone) which is steroid is prescribed to control the sugar level by treating the adrenal disorder

Reducing the dosage of the chemotherapy despite improvement in the CEA is to prevent drug interaction with the prescribed decadron

I hope this helps Regards
