Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What are the issues that cause a rise or fall in blood pressure? I am a 65 year old male. In Oct. at a health screening, I was told I had elevated blood pressure 150/94. Tonight it is 123/65. Is the high reading last fall worth being concerned when almost every other time I have it checked it is basically what I would consider good?
Hello Indeed, this is a very common concern. The new recommendations for BP values state that the average of atleast 2 readings taken about 2 to 4 hrs apart should be < 130 / 90 ... in the case of risk factors like diabetes, family history of hypertension, and obesity,, smoking it should be less than 120/80. In any case the BP at a Health check up clinic will be a bit higher.. So essential u take a call on the risk factors above... and as a tip start some interventions like low salt and exercises... walk 2 km in 20 minutes ( Target )
