What Causes Rough Dry Patch Below The Knee With Stinging Sensation?

I have a rough, small, dry/patchy area on the skin just below my knee (slightly to the side). Sometimes it stings if certain fabrics touch it, and sometimes it s itchy. No sign of infection. I ve been using cortisone cream. Any ideas? I don t have diabetes. Thanks!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that it may be fungal skin infection based on the symptoms described.

Fungal skin rash tend to be dry and scaly.

The use of a topical anti fungal will help eg econazole, ketoconazole, miconazole.
Fungal infections can take a long time to resolve, it may take two to three weeks of consistent use of medication.

I hope this helps
