What Causes Running Nose, Watery Eyes And Sneezing?

I have had oxygen through a nasal plastic tubing on Monday. I immediately had symptoms of running nose and eye on the right side only . Sneezing uncontronably as well. I took Benadryl while in the hospital and that did not relieve me of my symptoms. When I got home the next day I tried Flonase and allergy meds with still no relief. I have had these symptoms before after receiving nasal oxygen after numerous procedures. These symptoms usually last three days. Is there anything else I can do to get relief in the meantime.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, these symptoms can be due to allergic rhinitis or allergic spells to plastic tubing which you received or due to mask though rarely can trigger allergies in individuals who are prone to contact dermatitis or anaphylaxis.

Meanwhile, a possibility of the mask being contagious and spreading the infection may also exist. In any case, antihistamines like Cetrizine or loratidine along with decongestants may be helpful.

Antibiotics are not needed at this moment. Monteleukast or mast cell stabilizer to reduce the severity of allergic attacks may be used for the next few days. OTC analgesics like acetaminophen can be used with steam inhalations to feel better.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
