What Causes Runny Nose, Sore Throat And Swollen Glands In Neck?

I got sick about 3weeks ago with a sore throat, runny nose and sneezing. I am a 50yr old female. I also had swollen glands in my neck and I felt my wars popping some. I went to the Dr a week and a half ago and he said it was just a cold although I still feel tightness in my throat, glands in neck still swollen, now gland above right collarbone is swollen and is painful. Getting a shooting pain from behind ear to that gland all day on and off. I have new apt Monday, just very worried what is going on.

Thanks for asking at Healthcare Magic. I read your question and I understand your concern.
These are symptoms of Pharyngitis with eustachian tube blockage due to congestion and enlargement of glandular system of neck called Waldeyr ring in medical terminology.
You need simple workup. Throat swab for culture and sensitivity. full blood count.
I would like to advise you to take antiallergic like cetrizine,Tylenol and decongestant like Pseudoephedrine. Do regular saline nasal gargles
morning and evening. Avoid dust, dust mites, pollen and animal dander.
