Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a stroke during a surgery a couple of years ago and have had a runny nose and phlegm in my throat since. Sometimes mucus (like water) pours out of my nose when I am just sitting and I have to clear my throat constantly. My ENT sends me to the neurologist saying it is stroke related and my neurologist sends me to the ENT because it is my nose and throat. I go through 4 large boxes of tissues every week and my nose stays sore from blowing it so much. Any ideas for what I can do to lessen the problems?
By your history and description, possibility of allergic rhinitis is more likely. So better to consult allergy specialist and get done detailed allergy testing.
You will need intra-nasal spray containing steroid (Fluticasone) and oral combination of antihistamine (levocetrizine or fexofenadine) and anti allergic (montelukast). Don't worry, you will be alright with all these.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Kaushal Bhavsar, Pulmonologist
