Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My doctor just diagnosed me with a ruptured eardrum on the right. I was upset and didn t ask several questions. 1) How could this have happened/what is usual cause? I was told I had a severe ear infection and after 2 follow-up appts was told ruptured eardrum. 2) How long does this condition last, when might I get my hearing back? I am already hearing impaired in the left, now this is my right. My doctor is going to send me to a specialist, but I appreciate any info you could provide now. Thanks so much. Sandi Miller
As per your query you have ruptured eardrum . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like altitude changes , infection , allergy or tumor . Ear drum rupture can also occur due to injury due to q-tip .
I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may examine with otoscope or may order blood test CT scan and MRI to confirm the diagnosis or rule out condition like tumor .
Doctor may prescribe antibiotics course ( gentamicine ) at least for 10 days along with anti inflammatory . Doctor may also recommend patching of eardrum , tympanoplasty or radiation therapy for tumor .
It is very important to keep your ear dry and covered while bathing .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
