What Causes Saliva Discharge After Removal Of Tonsils And Adenoids?
Hi,My 16 year old son had his tonsils and adenoids taken out yesterday. He is having some difficulty swallowing .I think he probably got enough po fluids in today.I am a little concerned because he is spitting out lots of mucus/saliva.Is this normal/part of the recovery? Susan
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain as your son has got his tonsils and adenoids removed then difficulty in swallowing can be due to pain and it is a common finding after any surgical procedure.. Excessive mucous production is also not an abnormal finding as excessive mucous production is occurring due to irritation in throat and back of mouth leading to stimulation of the salivary glands leading to excessive saliva and mucous production.. As the healing will proceed the saliva production will also reduce and he will feel better.. In case if he has excessive mucous production then you can also get it removed using a suction machine.. Continue taking the medications as advised for pain and inflammation for faster relief.. Take ample of fluids.
Hope this information helps..
