Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am experiencing a 'salty' taste in the back of my mouth. I recently completed a 90 day anti-fungal medication for a toe nail problem which caused a taste problem. I have stopped taking that medication for about 3 weeks now. Can this salty taste still be due to that. I also have some flem (sp) in my throat due to an allergy or something. It is breaking up slowly and I'm clearing it out. Tom
As per your complaint salty taste in mouth is less probably due to medication as it is already 3 weeks of stopping the same and the symptoms should have resolved by now. However Flem or post nasal drip can be a cause for salty taste in mouth. Other common causes can be oral and dental infection, upper respiratory infection, Sinusitis, acid reflux, dry mouth , salivary gland Infection etc.
You should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigation as per suspected cause can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly. As of now do warm saline gargling. You should chew sugar free chewing gum. Drink plenty of water.
Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
