What Causes Salty Taste In Mouth?

Hello,I find myself sometimes having a salty taste in my mouth. It does not necessarily occur after eating salty food. In fact, because I have elevated blood pressure, I am very careful about how much salt I take, religiously reading labels and avoiding salt wherever possible.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
I have gone through your query & understand your concern.
The salty taste in mouth can be due to various causes.
- less water intake, excessive coffee/alcohol( causing more urination depriving water from body) -make your mouth dry,& the salty taste of saliva is felt.
- allergy sinusitis may have the same symptom. treatment of sinus infection will remove the salty taste,in such condition.
- extra tears can enter nasal cavity ,reach throat & produce salty taste.
* Taking ample of water & keep yourself well hydrated is the simple remedy.
- If the salty taste of mouth persists/worsens you need to consult your doctor.
- You have high blood pressure, are you taking diuretics ? if yes, that may be the cause of dehydration & salty taste. If so,Please consult your doctor & get the dose adjusted.
Thanks
