What Causes Sarcoidosis?

I am taking Hydorxychlorquine for RA and now my RA MD. is going to check for Sarcoidosis . I Have ripples in all my nails, have had fungus in my toe, and test positive for TB. Was treated for LYME disease this last Spring. For 9 years I have had what they thought was A-Fib. So, Lyme and Sarcoidosis can affect the heart. What is Sarcoidosis--I understand virus vs. parasites in the body.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Sarcoidosis is an immune-mediated, widespread, non-caseating granulomatous condition of the body.

It is usually asymptomatic and at times present with fatigue, weight loss, anorexia, joint pains.

Elevated ACE and Cd4+/CD8+ ratio in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid along with CT scan of a suspected region are diagnostic.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel,
General & Family Physician
