What Causes Scaly Patches On The Hands?

I am 60 years old and never have had this skin problem before. It appears on the back side of my hands, as red scaly patches, while my finger has gotten extremely dry and scaly too. The circular patches are directly behind the thumb joints where I have some arthritus. It will shortly clear up, only to come back now a second time.and disappear yet a second time. I can t think of any thing that I am using that could trigger this.

Hello,
Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic

The scaly rash you are describing could be due to eczema or psoriasis.
Physical examination ,microscopy of skin scraping and biopsy can help confirm the diagnosis.
Please be advised to follow up with a dermatologist to confirm the diagnosis.
Meanwhile, keep the area moisturized.Use moisturizing lotion containing aloe and vitamin E
You can also use topical mometasone furoate ointment on the rash.

Hope this answers your question
