Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My ear lobe, right next to/on top of my earring hole (haven t worn earrings for a while due to new allergy to metals) continues to scab (seems to be a build up of dead skin) up and if I pick it, it bleeds, and when it heals it scabs (dead skin, I think?) over again. Is this normal and is there anything I can do about it?
Many a times due to allergic reaction there is inflammation and infection in the area leading to recurring itching and scabbing...
Many a times there can be dryness in the area and it can cause scabbing and if you try to remove it there can be bleeding..
For now you can apply vaseline over the earlobe and you can also apply antibiotic ointment like Soframycin. Along with it you should avoid peeling it and let it heal naturally. Applying emollient will help in softening the area and eventually healing it.
If you wish to wear earrings wear of inert materials like gold or plastic so that it does not irritate the skin further.. Doing cool compresses can help in reducing inflammation..
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Honey Arora, Dentist
