What Causes Scanty Urination While On Bactrim?

Hello, I was prescribed Bactrim for a uti by my pcp. I am on day #9 of a 10 day course and my urine stream has diminished to something that cannot even be called a stream. It s got me worried! I should also mention that I had prostate cancer and a radical prostatectomy less than 5 months ago and my urine stream had already been reduce by some. Is it normal to have this on Bactrim? It seems to have progressed since I ve been on it.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

No, Bactrim does not affect production or flow of urine. You told about prostatectomy earlier.

Probability is that there may be stricture formation in prostatic part of urethra. So, consult surgeon and check for urethral stricture.

Otherwise drink at least 4 to 5 liter of water if you have no kidney failure. Also consult urologist and get complete kidney profile.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
