What Causes Scar And Yellow Fluid Discharge At The Site Of BCG Vaccine?

Hi,my daughter is 5 months old.she had the BCG vaccine on 20 may. it was all ok but today it just bursted and blood came out too. Now it has little deep hole in the middle of the scar .Im worried cos when my little boy had it /2 years ago/ the scar didnt bleed at all only the white or yellowish thingy came out.Could you please advise if I should get it checked - in case of infection or so.Many thanks

Hi,

BCG vaccine contains weak TB bactria. These bacteria produce immunity in the baby's body and protects her from TB infection in future. Because of the immune response there is swelling at the injection site, this heals itself in few days. Even if the swelling opens up naturally or by trauma, slight blood can come. The wound is to be just kept clean. Do not apply any spirit or ointment on it. Avoid any soiling of the part &avoid infection. If you find excessive swelling, pus, fever. Take the baby to doctor for needful care.
